Accommodation Prague's popularity as a tourist destination since 1989 has meant that demand for rooms has far outstripped supply, especially during high season. The situation has gradually improved but booking well in advance is advisable. Online reservations (web site: www.HotelsCzech.com) can result in substantial discounts not available by booking directly; the site is also useful for last-minute bookings. Virtually all the top hotels are now foreign-owned and prices are often quoted in US Dollars, Deutschmarks or Austrian Shillings rather than Czech Crowns. The price of a double room with en-suite facilities includes breakfast, 22% VAT and taxes unless stated otherwise; reductions for stays of over ten days are often possible and rates can be 20-25% cheaper from November to March (excluding Christmas, when they will, in fact, be higher).
